Hamza’s Work Experience

Hamza details his work experience as a Year 10 student with Gridware in this reflection. A cybersecurity firm that gave him this opportunity and has previously provided similar opportunities to other members.

If you’re into cybersecurity and want to know what areas to focus on to get your foot in the door, Hamza’s reflection shines a light on the work he completed during his time there. There’s also a fellow Muslims in Tech member that had a similar experience which you can read all about here.

Reflection

During my search for a work experience placement in the field of
cybersecurity, a domain I am deeply passionate about, I initially
encountered difficulties.

However, upon discovering the Muslims in Tech community, I reached out for assistance in securing a placement. They promptly provided me with a solution and facilitated an opportunity with Gridware, one of Australia’s leading and most esteemed cybersecurity firms.

During my work experience I acquired a wealth of knowledge and was assigned the following tasks:

  • Portswigger’s web application attacks: Cross site scripting
(XSS), SQL Injection, Authentication, Directory traversal,
Command Injection, Access control, Business logic vulnerabilities,
Information disclosure, File upload vulnerabilities, CSRF, CORS,
    Clickjacking, and more..
  • Portswigger Labs
  • TryHackMe – Jr Penetration Tester
  • Capstone project & producing a writeup: Attempt to exploit
Haircut machine on Hack The Box platform and provide a writeup
    of the process.

The tasks assigned within a single week may appear overwhelming, and indeed they were! However, Gridware aimed to assess my dedication to these responsibilities and provided the encouragement necessary for me to enhance my expertise and cultivate the mindset essential for success in this field.

The Gridware team was exceptional; they were very welcoming, offered great support, and addressed all my inquiries. This included even those questions driven by mere curiosity, about how things operate in the real world!

This experience was profoundly special and memorable for me. I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in tech in general, to be part of this remarkable, collaborative and supportive community.

Muslims in Tech has not only provided me with an invaluable work experience opportunity but has also integrated me into a network of individuals who share similar interests, exchange knowledge, and assist one another.
